The Star snags two awards for reporting excellence at Melaka Chief Minister Media Awards 2025

MELAKA: The Star has been honoured for excellence in news reporting during the Melaka Chief Minister’s Media Awards 2025 held at a leading hotel here.

The recognition was presented by Chief Minister Datuk Seri Ab Rauf Yusoh on Sunday night (Dec 14) in appreciation of The Star’s commitment to highlighting grassroots issues.

Two other media figures were also conferred special awards during the event, namely Malaysian National News Agency (Bernama) editor-in-chief Arul Rajoo Durar Raj and Tan Lian Wah of Sin Chew Media Group.

The Star also clinched another award during the event under the Excellence Reporting Award for the English category.

Speaking to reporters after the event, Ab Rauf said the selection process for the 14 award categories was highly competitive, with winners chosen through a rigorous evaluation conducted by veteran media practitioners and academicians.

He said media practitioners, as conveyors of truth and as a bridge linking the state government with the people, were recognised through the awards.

According to him, the contributions of media professionals were evident in how their work had helped promote Melaka to a global audience, particularly in the tourism sector.

“For that reason, the state government is honoured to present the awards in appreciation of the significant role played by media practitioners in this state.

“This is a sincere expression of the state government’s appreciation for the service and dedication shown by media professionals,” he said.

The event was also attended by State Secretary Datuk Azhar Arshad; Melaka science, technology, innovation and digital communications committee chairman Datuk Fairul Nizam Roslan; Special Adviser on Investment and China Affairs to the Melaka Chief Minister Datuk Lim Ban Hong; Melaka police chief Deputy Comm Datuk Dzulkhairi Mukhtar; Sinar Harian group chief editor Zamri Rambli; Melaka executive councillors and deputies, as well as other state dignitaries.

Ab Rauf also presented a special incentive of RM500 to media practitioners based in the state, as announced during the tabling of the Melaka State Budget 2026.
