SEREMBAN: A 63-year-old senior citizen pleaded guilty in the Sessions Court here to a charge of committing physical sexual assault on a nine-year-old girl.

Noor Aini Ismail did not contest the charge after it was read to him before judge N. Kanageswari on Friday (Dec 12).

The accused was charged with committing the offence in a garage of a house in Taman Desa, Port Dickson, on Dec 6.

He was charged under Section 14(a) of the Sexual Offences Against Children Act 2017, which carries a jail term of up to 20 years and whipping upon conviction.

Offenders are also to remain under police supervision for a period of one to three years.

Deputy public prosecutor Nurul Balkis Zunaidi then told the court that the prosecution was not offering bail to the accused pending sentencing because he had committed a serious offence.

Judge Kanageswari agreed with the prosecution and disallowed bail. She then fixed Jan 19 for sentencing.
