Man charged with wife’s murder in Kelantan


TANAH MERAH: A 63-year-old man was charged in the Magistrate’s Court here on Wednesday (Dec 10) with the murder of his wife at a house here on Dec 1.

No plea was recorded from the accused, Ibrahim Sulaiman, after the charge was read before Magistrate Tun Faez Fikhrie Tun Asrul Saini, as murder cases fall under the jurisdiction of the High Court.

Ibrahim is accused of murdering Mastura Abdullah, 40, at an unnumbered house in Kampung Paku, Gual Ipoh, between 9.30am and 12.15pm on Dec 1.

He was charged under Section 302 of the Penal Code, which carries the death penalty. If the death sentence is not imposed, the offence is punishable with imprisonment of between 30 and 40 years, along with not fewer than 12 strokes of the cane.

The court fixed Feb 12 for mention of the case.

Deputy public prosecutor Ahmad Irfan Aizat Mohd Daud appeared for the prosecution, while the accused was unrepresented. - Bernama
