Inkala Devi, 42, from Uttar Pradesh had stopped for snacks with family members while waiting at a hospital where her daughter-in-law was in labour.
As she popped a pani puri – a popular fried dough ball with filling that’s eaten whole – into her mouth, her jaw suddenly locked open, causing intense pain.
The group rushed back to the hospital, but doctors there were unable to relax her jaw. She was transferred to another facility, where specialists finally managed to restore it to its normal position.
