MCA should contest more seats with large Chinese electorate in GE16, says youth wing

KUALA LUMPUR: MCA Youth has passed a resolution stating that MCA should contest seats with a significant Chinese electorate in the next general election to ensure strong and effective political representation.

The resolution, part of a wider political package adopted at the wing's 26th Central Delegates 3rd General Assembly on Saturday (Dec 6), underlines its push for a clearer and more assertive role for MCA in Chinese-majority and mixed constituencies ahead of the 16th General Election.

Among others, MCA Youth also resolved that the party must maintain an autonomous political stance, rejecting any form of cooperation with parties that fail to honour their promises or deviate from MCA's core principles.

Beyond electoral strategy, several resolutions passed were also focused on youth policy and education.

One of them calls for the Youth and Sports Ministry to halt the move to lower the youth age ceiling to 30 and instead set it at 35 years. It also said that it needs to be implemented with a reasonable transition period.

MCA Youth also urged the government to review and strengthen the National Youth Policy 2025-2030 to ensure youths are genuinely represented in public policy formulation, rather than being treated merely as a target group.

On the economic and skills front, the AGM resolved to fast-track technical and vocational education and training (TVET) policies, with a focus on practical skills training, quality job opportunities and youth entrepreneurship, particularly in high-tech, green and high-value-added sectors.

On higher education, MCA Youth called for a reassessment of paid "direct intake" mechanisms in public universities to ensure that access to tertiary education remains fair and equitable for all Malaysians, regardless of background.

The resolutions signalled MCA Youth's bid to be not just GE16 election machinery, but a policy-driven voice on youth, education and skills, while pushing for a clearer, principle-based direction for the party.
