PETALING JAYA: A lorry attendant was fined RM4,000 or three months in jail by the Magistrate's Court here for having in his possession pornographic videos and images in his mobile phone.
Magistrate Shahril Anuar Ahmad Mustapa passed the sentence on S. Thanaraj, 32, after he pleaded guilty to having the pornographic material in his handphone at a condominium on Jalan Masjid Bandar Utama near here at 12.30pm on Nov 23.
Thanaraj was charged under Section 292 of the Penal Code that carries a maximum three years imprisonment or fine or both, if convicted.
Deputy Public Prosecutor Lim Leong Hui asked the court to mete out a just sentence.
Thanaraj's lawyer Datin Raj Preet Kaur, however, asked for a lenient sentence as her client earns the bare minimum.
At the same court, Thanaraj also pleaded not guilty to a charge of cheating a 15-year-old school student involving jewellery worth RM15,000.
According to the charge sheet, Thanaraj allegedly cheated the teenager by deceiving her into handing over a ring, a gold locket, gold earrings and a gold bracelet whereby the teenager would not have done so if she was not deceived.
The offence was allegedly committed at a house here on Jalan Kenyalang, Kota Damansara on Oct 26.
Thanaraj was charged under Section 420 of the Penal Code. He faces a maximum 10-year jail sentence and whipping and fine, if convicted.
For this offence, the court allowed him bail at RM6,000 in one surety. The case is set for mention on Feb 3.
