JOHOR BARU: Four leaders from Johor DAP Socialist Youth (Dapsy) - including its chief Loh Wei Jian - have announced their resignation amidst mounting organisational responsibilities.
Loh said he, along with state Dapsy secretary Suweeta Lam Xiao Wei, organising secretary Lee Jia Hau and committee member Lee Wan Chian, tendered their resignations at 7am on Monday (Dec 1).
He said the letters have also been submitted to the national Dapsy secretariat.
Loh said the decision was made after the four found it increasingly difficult to balance organisational responsibilities with work, family and personal commitments.
“Johor is the only state not part of the unity government and has always been regarded internally as a front-line state with many promising young leaders.
“After careful consideration, we voluntarily stepped aside to ensure the state wing can continue functioning well and be better prepared for future elections,” he said in a statement.
Loh said that the four who resigned were core members of the state leadership and urged the national secretariat to expedite a re-election exercise.
He said a new lineup should be chosen soon so that successors have enough time to chart the state wing’s direction and strengthen outreach to young voters ahead of the next Johor Election and General Election.
Loh also clarified that both he and Lam, who also hold positions in the Dapsy national committee, would continue serving at the central level, and that their resignations only affect their Johor roles.
He reaffirmed support for Dapsy national chief Woo Kah Leong and the youth wing’s four policy priorities, which are abolishing the Universities and University Colleges Act, standardising university admissions, reinstating political education and recruiting young talent.
“As the national political education director, I will continue working closely with Woo to strengthen political education within the party,” he said.
