KUALA LUMPUR: Heads of households affected by floods will receive Bantuan Wang Ihsan within one to three days after PPS close, says Datuk Seri Nancy Shukri.
The Women, Family and Community Development Minister said the improved system will be implemented for the 2025–2026 northeast monsoon.
She said payments will be made directly through Bank Simpanan Nasional, adding this is based on household head registration via the MyInfo Bencana Social Welfare Department system.
“This is what is most important. Payments will be made directly to heads of households between one and three days after PPS close,” she said in the Dewan Rakyat on Thursday (Nov 27).
She said the mechanism ensures faster and more efficient delivery of assistance to disaster victims.
Nancy said Putrajaya has allocated RM7mil for disaster operations management to state governments and frontline agencies.
She said this supports immediate expenditure for coordination and emergency operations during the monsoon.
Beyond cash aid, she said Nadma is strengthening post disaster coordination.
This includes early clean up support and other assistance for victims.
She said it also includes urgent repairs of damaged infrastructure, adding collaboration through the Rakan Nadma platform is being enhanced and state and district disaster committees and NGOs will coordinate more efficiently.
Nancy responded to claims that NGOs were barred from providing food and supplies at PPS.
She dismissed the claims as not true, adding the misunderstanding likely arose from the need to follow coordination procedures.
“All contributions must first be channelled through the secretariat to match actual needs. They must also be sufficient for all victims,” said Nancy.
“For example, if donors bring 200 packs but there are 300 victims, it will cause tension and inequality. The SOP prevents wastage, duplication and conflict among evacuees,” she added.
She said donors should contact state or district disaster operations control centres as listed on the Nadma portal, and JKM hotline numbers are available on the MyIBJKM app.
As of 8am on Thursday (November 27), Nancy said 29,400 victims from 10,193 families have been evacuated.
They are at 216 PPS across 35 districts in seven states.
Kelantan recorded the highest admissions, particularly in Tumpat, Kota Baru and Bachok.
For preparedness, she said the Department of Irrigation and Drainage has updated 3,682 flood hotspots.
She said the Minerals and Geoscience Department has identified 254 critical slopes nationwide.
The Flood Forecasting and Warning Programme involving 33 models operates round the clock.
Nancy said MetMalaysia will issue significant weather forecasts at least a week in advance.
She said continuous rain and severe wind warnings will be issued up to three days ahead.
At the federal level, she said the Central Disaster Management Committee continues to coordinate preparations across agencies.
Nancy added that 103,500 personnel supported by nearly 40,000 ground, air and maritime assets are on standby.
She said JKM has activated 9,058 PPS with capacity for 2.2 million evacuees nationwide.
