KUDAT: Caretaker chief minister Datuk Seri Hajiji Noor’s campaign rolled into Sabah’s northern Kudat as he trained Gabungan Rakyat Sabah’s (GRS) attack on its opponents, Parti KDM and Warisan.
Hajiji gave his full backing to GRS’s Parti Bersatu Sabah (PBS) secretary-general Datuk Julita Majungki, urging voters to back the Matunggong incumbent who is facing KDM deputy president Datuk Wetrom Bahanda, who moved from his Bandau seat to challenge her.
“I hope voters in Matunggong will not make the wrong choice but will elect the GRS candidate, Datuk Julita Majungki.
“In Matunggong, many candidates are contesting, but Datuk Julita’s record as a representative and assistant minister shows she has carried out her duties well and brought progress to Matunggong,” he said at the GRS mega-election campaign tour at the Matunggong hall.
Hajiji said this election was important to determine the government that will govern Sabah for the next five years.
At an earlier campaign gathering themed “Rumah Kita, Kita Jaga”, Hajiji said that GRS was confident of getting a fresh mandate as people were aware of their success in developing the state’s economy and handling of the people’s well-being over the past five years.
“The GRS government has implemented various initiatives and programmes, as well as boosted economic development, including state revenue collection and reserves. This is an achievement that the people should be proud of.
“We want to bring Sabah to another level after this election so that it is on par with other states in the country. We are not making empty promises like the Opposition, who like to spread slander and rhetoric but are actually empty,” he said in campaigning for GRS candidates for Banggi, Datuk Mohammad Mohamarin, and Tanjong Kapor, Datuk Chong Chen Bin who both joined GRS after winning their seats on a Warisan ticket in the 2020 state election.
“I am impressed with these two leaders because they have their own vision to develop their respective areas, especially in education and infrastructure development.
“They plan for the benefit of the people, and these are the kind of leaders we want — those with vision and goals. Do not listen to candidates who only know how to talk empty words, but choose government candidates because this will bring good to the people,” he said.
Hajiji urged the people not to be easily influenced by leaders or parties claiming that the GRS government has failed.
“In fact, they are the ones who failed, because some of them were once chief ministers, federal rural ministers, and state public works ministers. Yet the problems of water supply, electricity, and rural roads in this state were not solved.
“They claim the state government has failed, but the ones who actually failed are them. Therefore, give the GRS government another chance for five more years. More development will come if the people continue to give us the mandate, and I ask the people of Kudat to continue supporting GRS candidates for Banggi and Tanjong Kapor on Nov 29,” he said.
