Floods: 53 SPM candidates in Kedah affected so far

ALOR SETAR: A total of 53 Sijil Pelajaran Malaysia (SPM) candidates in Kedah are affected by floods as of 2.30pm Monday (Nov 24).

Kedah Education Department director Abdul Rahim Mat said the affected candidates are from the districts of Kulim/Bandar Baharu, Kubang Pasu and Padang Terap.

"In Kulim/Bandar Baharu, eight candidates are affected and two schools have been impacted. Of the eight candidates, five have been placed at the dormitory of SMK Dato Lela Pahlawan, while the remaining three are staying with relatives.

"In Kubang Pasu, 41 candidates from SMK Changlun are affected. Of these, 26 have been placed in the school's dormitory, while efforts are underway to bring the remaining 15 to the school," he said in a statement Monday.

In Padang Terap, four candidates are affected and all have been placed at the Maktab Mahmud Padang Terap dormitory.

Meanwhile, Abdul Rahim said the department has taken several measures to assist flood-affected SPM candidates. Those affected will be placed in their school's dormitory, and if their school does not have one, they will be housed in a nearby school's dormitory and sit for the examination at that centre.

"If a designated SPM examination centre is affected by floods, the exam location will be relocated to another school with dormitory facilities. All students may stay in the dormitory of the school hosting the relocated exam centre," he said. - Bernama
