Four nabbed for cable theft in Taiping

IPOH: Police have arrested four men suspected of being involved in cable theft at Jalan Kamunting-Batu Kurau, near Taiping Vocational College, on Saturday (Nov 15).

Taiping OCPD Asst Comm Mohamad Nasir Ismail said the arrests were made at about 1.50am after a team from the Kamunting police station received a tip-off from a teenager.

The witness claimed that he saw several individuals removing a cable manhole cover by the roadside in a suspicious manner.

"Acting on the information, a crime prevention patrol team was immediately dispatched to the location and detained four men, aged between 38 and 41.

"The suspects were detained while they were removing a cable manhole cover using specialised tools.

"Also seized were two machetes, two screwdrivers, and a Perodua Myvi car,” he said in a statement on Saturday.

The case is being investigated under Section 379/511 of the Penal Code, and all suspects have been remanded for three days until Nov 17 to assist in the investigation. — Bernama
