SWCorp detains lorry at illegal dumping ground in Sedenak

KULAI: The Johor Solid Waste Management and Public Cleansing Corporation (SWCorp) has uncovered an illegal dumping ground in Sedenak and detained a lorry caught unloading rubbish at the site.

Johor SWCorp director Zainal Fitri Ahmad said the lorry was seized on Friday (Nov 7) for further investigation under Section 71 of the Solid Waste Management and Public Cleansing Act 2007 (Act 672).

"The enforcement operation was carried out to curb illegal solid waste disposal in prohibited areas," he said in a statement.

He added that offenders could face a fine of RM10,000 to RM100,000, or imprisonment of six months to five years, or both.

Zainal Fitri said the operation in Kulai resulted from SWCorp’s proactive and continuous enforcement efforts statewide.

He noted a similar operation in Johor Baru on Oct 24 also saw a lorry detained in Taman Saujana, Plentong, and added that SWCorp would continue to take uncompromising action across all districts in Johor to ensure compliance with the law under Act 672.

"We are committed to taking strict action against any party involved in illegal dumping, in line with the Bandar Bersih Johor 2030 aspiration that emphasises cleanliness, sustainability and community well-being," he said.

From 2018 to 2025, a total of 107 prosecutions have been carried out, involving RM1.846mil in fines.

This year alone, 18 cases have been recorded with fines amounting to RM305,000, he said.
