Beware of fake social media profile impersonating The Star

PETALING JAYA: Star Media Group Bhd, which publishes The Star print products and online portal, refers to a scam Facebook profile misusing The Star's brand identity.

It has come to the group's attention that the profile using the handle "Jlopentir" uploaded a fake news video featuring an image of His Majesty, Sultan Ibrahim, King of Malaysia, with the caption "A Unique Opportunity: Tan Sri Azman Mokhtar launches a platform with Royal approval for a limited number of participants" that misuses The Star's logo.

The group wishes to clarify that the video is not affiliated with The Star in any way.

The aforementioned Facebook post, as well as similar iterations and others like it, is not run by The Star.

Please do not interact with these articles, social media pages or suspicious ads seen on social media.

The Star – which Reuters named one of the most trusted sources of news in Malaysia – publishes on its official website thestar.com.my.
