KOTA KINABALU: A child in Tawau district woke up to a nightmare when she found a naked man lying beside her in the early hours of Tuesday (Nov 4).
The 11-year-old girl was jolted awake at 3am, according to police.
Tawau OCPD Asst Comm Jasmin Hussin said the girl screamed when she saw the man, who kissed her cheek and forehead.
"Her screams awakened her mother and caused the suspect to flee," he said in a statement on Wednesday (Nov 5).
The mother lodged a police report, and after a manhunt, police arrested a suspect in his 20s at around 10am the same day.
ACP Jasmin said the man, a foreigner, is being investigated under Section 14(a) of the Sexual Offences Against Children Act 2017.
He advised parents to be wary of their safety and security at home to better protect their children.
