Over 80 probe papers opened on graft cases involving ministries, says Azalina

KUALA LUMPUR: The Malaysian Anti-Corruption Commission (MACC) has opened more than 80 investigation papers on graft cases across several ministries, says Datuk Seri Azalina Othman Said.

The Minister in the Prime Minister's Department (Law and Institutional Reform) said a total of 87 investigation papers were opened by the anti-graft body between 2022 and Sept 26, 2025.

Out of the 28 ministries, the Domestic Trade and Cost of Living Ministry saw the highest number of cases at 14, followed by the Home Ministry with 11. Both the Education and Finance Ministries had eight cases each.

Youth and Sports; Digital; Works; Foreign; Plantation and Commodities; Investment, Trade and Industry (Miti) and Science, Technology and Innovation were the only ministries without cases.

She was responding to a question by Datuk Rosol Wahid (PN-Hulu Terengganu) on the number of corruption cases involving public servants and the breakdown of cases according to the ministry or agency involved.

On a separate note, Azalina said the government had established integrity units at public agencies based on inputs from the MACC and this unit will be key in managing integrity-related issues in all public agencies.

“As of Aug 31, 2025, a total of 479 Integrity Units (UIs) have been established across public agencies under Federal and State Ministries, Departments, and Agencies, as shown in the following table,” she said.

Citing the findings of the First Term Report of the Integrity Unit for the period Jan to April 2025, she said 5,474 complaints were received from Integrity Units established within ministries and agencies.

“A total of 930 disciplinary actions were taken under the Public Officers (Conduct and Discipline) Regulations 1993,” she added.

She said this in response to a question by Tan Kok Wai (PH-Cheras) on the number of Integrity Units established in ministries, government departments, and local authorities, as well as their achievements to date in efforts to combat corruption and abuse of power.
