The senior citizen was found dead in a drain at a banana plantation in Hutan Melintang
IPOH:A 77-year-old woman who had been missing for three days was found dead in a drain within a banana plantation near Kampung Teluk Kerdu in Hutan Melintang on Saturday (Nov 1).
Perak Fire and Rescue Department acting assistant director of operations Shazlean Mohd Hanafiah said the victim, identified as Halimah Idris, was discovered at about 10.50am by search and rescue teams involving multiple agencies.
“The woman was found in a drain in Sector B of the search area. Health officers at the scene confirmed that she had died,” he said in a statement Saturday.
He said following the discovery, the operations commander instructed the teams to manage the victim’s remains, which were later handed over to the police for further action.
He added that the victim had reportedly left her home on Oct 28 and did not return.
“Her neighbour lodged a police report after she could not be located. She was said to have suffered from memory problems.
“Search operations were launched on Oct 30, involving the Fire and Rescue Department’s Hutan Melintang station, K9 units, police, Civil Defence Force, Rela and local villagers.
“The teams were divided into sectors and conducted sweep searches within a 5km radius from the victim’s last known location, including near the riverbank,” he added.
A total of 49 personnel took part in the operation equipped with a drone.
