Couple pleads not guilty to robbing pawnshop of jewellery worth over RM5mil


PASIR MAS: A couple was charged in the Magistrate's Court here today in connection with last week’s robbery, involving jewellery worth RM5.755mil, at a pawnshop.

Wee Chin Ooi, 49, and Wee Fei Fang, 47, pleaded not guilty and claimed trial to their charges, which were read out separately, before Magistrate Syed Farid Syed Ali.

Chin Ooi is charged under Section 392 of the Penal Code, read together with Section 397 of the same law, with committing robbery when armed with a knife at Kedai Pajak Gadai Aik Lee Jaya Sdn Bhd here at about 1pm on Oct 21.

He faces a jail sentence of up to 14 years and caning or whipping upon conviction.

Meanwhile, Fei Fang is charged with abetting Chin Ooi in committing the robbery at the same location, time and date.

The charge is framed under Section 392 of the Penal Code, read together with sections 397 and 109 of the same law.

The court set Nov 6 for mention for the submission of documents.

The couple is represented by lawyer M. K Maalinn, while the prosecution is conducted by deputy public prosecutor Siti Aiysha Na'ilah Harizan. - Bernama
