PETALING JAYA: It is likely that Datuk Seri Muhammad Adlan Berhan has been using a non-Malaysian passport to travel abroad, Tan Sri Azam Baki says.
The Malaysian Anti-Corruption Commission (MACC) chief commissioner, met after the closing ceremony of the 21st Principals Meeting of the Asean Parties Against Corruption (Asean-PAC), said that Adlan’s Malaysian passport has been prohibited from being renewed.
"His Malaysian passport has been cancelled. So it is likely that his ability to move to other countries is due to him using a different passport and I am confident it is not a Malaysian one.
"Regarding (tracing) his assets overseas, it is not an easy process. It requires collaboration with foreign agencies so give us time to trace down these assets.
"Another thing is that even though we can trace down his assets overseas we need to see if it relates to the case that we are investigating," he said.
He added that the MACC has yet to identify whether a proxy has been used by him to manage his assets overseas.
"This is a challenge that we need to face.
"We will not be calling in for more statements because to us the case has been completed," he said, adding that all that was left was to charge him and his lawyer Mansoor Saat.
Muhammad Adlan, who is the son-in-law of former prime minister Tan Sri Muhyiddin Yassin, is wanted by the MACC for alleged criminal breach of trust.
Mansoor, 70, also fled the country shortly after Muhammad Adlan.
