BN Youth treasurer 'given a break' from duties after scandalous ex-wife allegations

PETALING JAYA: Barisan Nasional Youth treasurer Datuk Shahrul Nasrun Kamarudin has temporarily been 'given a break' from his duties following backlash online after his ex-wife's scandalous allegations.

Umno Youth chief Datuk Dr Muhamad Akmal Saleh told Sinar Harian that the decision was made to give Shahrul Nasrun some space to settle his personal affairs following the backlash.

"For the time being, Datuk Shahrul is temporarily relieved from his duties as BN Youth treasurer so that he can focus on his personal matters.

"On his personal affairs, we will not intervene and give him the space needed to settle it," he said on Wednesday (Oct 29).

The controversy started on Oct 28 when Shahrul Nasrun's ex-wife, Amyera Zainal, took to social media and made a series of explosive claims of his supposed infidelity and leading a double life.

The influencer and entrepreneur said that she was coming forward because she felt that certain parties were trying to ruin her reputation.

These allegations come only a few days after Shahrul Nasrun got newly engaged on Oct 25.

Shahrul has since come out to deny the allegations against him.

"I want to stress that my fiancée, Meerween Hanees Natasha, has no connection whatsoever with the issues currently going viral.

"Our relationship only began after I was officially divorced and held the status of a single man. I sincerely hope that she will no longer be linked to any form of accusation or slander," he said in a statement posted on Instagram on Tuesday (Oct 28).

He added that while he accepted responsibility for his past mistakes, he was deeply disappointed that private matters had been turned into public controversy.

"I admit that my previous marriage legally ended on July 30, 2024. My ex-wife and I went through the process in accordance with both civil and religious laws. As a human being, I am not free from making mistakes. I do not deny my shortcomings, and what happened in my past marriage is a valuable life lesson.

"However, I truly regret that something which should have remained private is now being made a public discussion, tarnishing the dignity of many, including myself, my family and my fiancée, who has nothing to do with this," he added.

However, this controversy has seen Shahrul Nasrun face growing outrage from the public with many questioning his integrity and suitability for leadership.

As the controversy continues to dominate social media, platforms such as TikTok, Threads and Instagram have been inundated with criticism and intense debate over Shahrul’s alleged behaviour and his role in BN Youth.
