Zahid: Malaysia’s Asean chairmanship reflects global confidence in its leadership

PETALING JAYA: The presence of world leaders at the opening of the 47th Asean Summit in Kuala Lumpur reflects the international community’s confidence in Malaysia’s leadership as a committed regional player, says Deputy Prime Minister Datuk Seri Ahmad Zahid Hamidi.

He said Malaysia, as this year’s Asean chair, was determined to ensure that every decision and initiative undertaken would benefit the region’s people in line with the Asean Community Vision 2045.

“The attendance of many world leaders in Kuala Lumpur today reflects global confidence in Malaysia’s role as a regional leader committed to the agenda of inclusivity and sustainability,” he said in a Facebook post on Sunday (Oct 26).

Zahid also cited Prime Minister Datuk Seri Anwar Ibrahim’s opening remarks at the summit, who said that “Leadership is never a matter of routine, but it is a matter of choice.”

He said the statement underscored the courage to set priorities, renew Asean’s spirit and chart a path that aligns with the hopes of the region’s people.

Zahid congratulated all those involved in ensuring the smooth organisation of the summit, expressing pride in Malaysia’s efforts as host.

“Let us all pray that the 47th Asean Summit will proceed smoothly and bring blessings and great benefits to Malaysia and the entire region,” he added.
