Two killed in five-vehicle pileup near Sitiawan

IPOH: A 38-year-old man and a 40-year-old woman were killed in an incident involving five vehicles along Jalan Kampung Kayan, near Sitiawan.

Perak Fire and Rescue Department acting assistant director of operations Shazlean Mohd Hanafiah said the incident occurred around 8.15am on Wednesday (Oct 22), when the female victim’s husband pulled over to offer assistance to another vehicle.

"A car with two passengers had lost control and veered off the road. A motorcyclist stopped and tried to help.

"A lorry then crashed into the motorcycle, killing the female rider and injuring her husband and two young children," he said in a statement, adding that the lorry flipped on its side due to the collision.

Shazlean said a four-wheel drive (4WD) vehicle and another motorcycle were also caught in the incident, leading to the second casualty.

"The bodies of the deceased have been handed over to the police for the next course of action," he added.

Meanwhile, Perak Tengah OCPD Superintendent Hafezul Helmi Hamzah urged those with information on the case to contact investigating officer Insp Mohd Hairy Baharuddin at 014-565 4565.
