Sabah polls: Upko to contest under its own logo

KOTA KINABALU: Upko says it will use its own party logo in the coming 17th Sabah State Election.

Upko president Datuk Ewon Benedick said the party would use its "Mt Kinabalu" logo for the state polls but continue using the Pakatan Harapan logo when contesting for Parliament seats.

He said the decision was made after a meeting with Sabah Pakatan, adding that PKR and DAP would discuss the matter with their central leadership.

"What Upko decided is based on what Pakatan chairman (Datuk Seri Anwar Ibrahim) said – that Sabah Pakatan has autonomy to make decisions," he said.

Benedick said Upko's decision reflects the unique political scenario in Sabah and the state Pakatan's autonomy, which allows them to decide what works best for the polls.

He said in the 2022 Johor State Election, PKR used its own logo while Amanah and DAP used the Pakatan logo.

On seat allocations, he said Sabah Pakatan had decided how many seats they would contest but required further discussion with other component parties and the federal-level central leadership.

He said the final decision would be known on nomination day.
