Shooting in Taman Bendahara linked to gang turf war

KUALA LUMPUR: The shooting of a man in Taman Bendahara is believed to be linked to a gang fight over territory.

Bukit Aman Criminal Investigation Department director Comm Datuk M. Kumar said at a press conference on Friday (Oct 17) that the incident occurred on Oct 7, when the victim was shot in the stomach in Taman Bendahara.

“He was shot at close range and is now in stable condition after being treated at Tanjung Karang Hospital.

“Following investigations into the shooting, a total of 10 suspects aged between 21 and 40 were arrested. A handgun, one magazine and three bullets were also seized,” he said.

Comm Kumar added that the weapon seized is believed to be the one used during the shooting.

Investigations showed that the attack stemmed from an argument over drug distribution territory.

Two more suspects are currently being pursued, including one with a wanted status — 21-year-old Danesh Arumugam and 34-year-old Doraithas Jalesten Albert.

“All those arrested have prior police records, including for gang robbery, causing hurt and drug distribution. They have been remanded until Oct 20,” he said.
