Collision on Batu Pahat-Mersing road claims life of motorcyclist


KLUANG: A collision involving a motorcycle, bicycle, and tanker lorry resulted in one person dead and another seriously injured.

Kluang OCPD Asst Comm Bahrin Mohd Noh said the accident at KM60 Jalan Batu Pahat-Mersing near here, took place at around 8.30pm on Thursday (Oct 17).

“A 28-year-old motorcyclist was riding towards Kluang town from Mersing when a Bangladeshi cyclist suddenly crossed the road.

“The motorcyclist, who could not avoid him in time, rammed into the cyclist before hitting the back of the tanker that was parked on the left side of the road.

“The motorcyclist was killed on the spot due to severe head and body injuries,” he said in a statement on Friday (Oct 17).

He added that the 50-year-old cyclist, who sustained severe injuries to his head and body, was rushed to Hospital Enche’ Besar Hajjah Khalsom’s intensive care unit for medical treatment.

The case was classified under Section 41(1) of the Road Transport Act 1987.

ACP Bahrin said police are also investigating the 42-year-old tanker driver under Rule 16(1) of the Road Traffic Regulations LN 166/59 for obstructing the road with the heavy vehicle, which is punishable by a maximum fine of RM2,000 or jail term of up to six months.
