14-year-old killed, three other teens injured in Kota Tinggi motorcycle accident

KOTA TINGGI: A 14-year-old student was killed on Friday (Oct 17) while three others were injured in a motorcycle accident after completing their Friday prayers.

Kota Tinggi OCPD Supt Yusof Othman said the accident occurred at the junction of Jalan Hijau 8, Felda Penggeli Timur here at about 3.25pm on Friday (Oct 17).

“The incident involved two motorcycles, one ridden by a 15-year-old with a 17-year-old pillion rider, and the other ridden by a 14-year-old with another 14-year-old as pillion.

“The crash occurred when the first motorcycle was turning into a junction. The other motorcycle, which was travelling in the same direction behind, rammed into its side,” he said in a statement.

He said the pillion rider of the second motorcycle sustained severe head injuries and died at the scene. His body was sent to Hospital Kota Tinggi for post mortem.

The motorcycle’s rider was rushed to Hospital Enche’ Besar Hajjah Khalsom in Kluang for medical attention while the 15-year-old and 17-year-old boys on the first motorcycle only sustained minor injuries.

“Checks revealed that none of the students possessed motorcycle licences, nor were they wearing helmets at the time,” he said, adding that the case is being investigated under Section 41(1) of the Road Transport Act 1987.

He also reminded road users to always obey traffic laws and stay alert on the road to ensure the safety of all.
