JOHOR BARU: More than a dozen lovebirds seized the moment to begin a new chapter on Oct 10 – a date they felt is meaningful and easy to remember.
For Sabahan Stanley Wong, 28, Oct 10 is a “beautiful” date that perfectly captures his journey with his significant other, Chang Zi Ying, 22.
“We got to know each other about three years ago when she came by the restaurant where I was working.
“We knew about each other before that, as she knows my cousin. But that was the first time we met, and something just clicked,” said Wong, who has been living here for more than seven years.
He said they eventually became colleagues after Chang started working at the same restaurant.
“We have been working as waitstaff at the restaurant for about a year, and I’m glad we now get to be partners for life,” he added.
For Khoo Bee En, who tied the knot with Tee Yee Chao, the Oct 10 date is a double blessing as it coincides with her father’s birthday.
“As we were deciding on a date, we realised that Oct 10 also happens to be my father’s 59th birthday. So, we thought, why not?
“We couldn’t think of a more perfect date. In a way, this is also our gift to him and a double blessing for us,” said the 29-year-old business owner.
Khoo, who has been in a relationship with Tee for more than seven years, said they met through mutual friends while studying at the same polytechnic in Singapore.
“Over the years, we got to know each other better and even learned that we happen to come from the same hometown, Labis,” she said.
The two couples were among 15 pairs who opted to get married at the Johor Baru Tiong Hua Association building yesterday.
Deputy association president Datuk Lee Boon Huat said Oct 10 is a popular date among couples as it is considered auspicious and often associated with perfection.
“Oct 10 is among the popular dates as ‘10/10’ looks like a full mark or a perfect score, signifying a balanced and harmonious union.
“We have couples from all over the country, including Penang, Sarawak and Kedah, getting married here as they are working in Singapore,” he said.
At a wedding hall in Permas Jaya, couple A. Sopna and M. Brusechothoman also marked their union on the same date.
“We didn’t plan to have it fall on such a nice date, but it was definitely a perfect coincidence.
“We realised how beautifully the numbers for the date align, and it’s also an easy date to remember,” said Sopna, who works as a clerk.
Brusechothoman, 29, said he got to know his 25-year-old bride about five years ago through social media.
“The more we got to know each other, the deeper our love grew, and eventually, we decided to be life partners,” said the mechanic.
