Budget 2026: RM4,000 grant for upgrading to new national cars

PETALING JAYA: Owners of vehicles that are older than 20 years will be eligible for a RM4,000 incentive when they purchase a new national car, says Prime Minister Datuk Seri Anwar Ibrahim.

Anwar, who is also Finance Minister, said the new grant, introduced in collaboration with national carmakers, is meant to encourage scrapping of overly-aged vehicles that could pose a risk to drivers and others on the road.

“This grant’s goal is to encourage these owners to scrap their old vehicles and purchase new national cars, as older, outdated vehicles can pose a higher risk of accidents,” he said in the Budget 2026 announcement at the Dewan Rakyat on Friday (Oct 10)

He said the initiative would be among several preventive measures aimed at reducing the risk of road accidents in the country.
