Two Chinese tourists go missing from Mantanani Island

KOTA KINABALU: Two Chinese tourists have mysteriously disappeared from Mantanani Island off Kota Belud.

The duo, Fan Qin, 28, and Yu XiaoPeng, 25, had checked into a resort on the island on Oct 4 and were supposed to check out the next day.

However, resort employees found the duo's belongings still inside the room after checkout time.

Kota Belud OCPD Supt Shahrudin Mat Husain said they received a missing persons report from the resort at around 8pm on Sunday (Oct 5).

He said witnesses said the man was last seen wearing a black long-sleeved shirt and long pants while the woman was wearing a short-sleeved shirt and black knee-length pants.

He said a search was conducted together with the Fire and Rescue Department, General Operations Force (GOF) and marine corps.

He said a land and sea search was conducted and later expanded to air search.

Supt Shahrudin also requested those with information to call investigating officer Insp Frankie Pain at 019-215 1132.
