PETALING JAYA: Megah Rise Mall will open its doors to the community for a three-day programme dedicated to World Mental Health Day, from Oct 10 to 12, 10am to 5pm.

The initiative seeks to raise awareness, provide education and strengthen community support for mental wellbeing across all stages of life particularly working adults, senior citizens, retirees, families and caregivers.

The line-up of events will be guided by this year’s theme: “Community: Supporting Mental Wellbeing Together. Rewirement, not Retirement.”

It seeks to create greater awareness around mental health, empower individuals with knowledge and encourage supportive conversations within families and neighbourhoods.

The initiative is jointly organised by Alliance for A Safe Community (Ikatan) and PPB Properties, while supported by National Centre of Excellence for Mental Health (NCEMH).

At the heart of the event is the belief that mental health is not a private struggle, but a shared responsibility.

Participants will explore various topics such as grief, mindfulness in old age, dementia, depression in later life, parenting in the age of artificial intelligence (AI) and the importance of rest and sleep for healthy ageing.

Highlights of the weekend include a series of engaging talks scheduled on Oct 10 and 12, an official launch event followed by an interactive forum on Oct 11 by four expert panellists.

Certified professionals will also shed light on post-retirement challenges including isolation, loss of purpose and empty nest syndrome. It encourages the community to embrace the idea of rewirement, seeing later life as a phase of renewal and growth.

In addition to educational sessions, visitors will benefit from complimentary mental health support and consultations by clinical psychologists from UCSI University across all three days, as well as basic health screenings held on Oct 11 from 3-5pm, including blood tests, BMI and fitness checks.

The event is free and open to the public, welcoming individuals and families to take part in this community-driven effort.

The full programme aspires to foster empathy, resilience and meaningful connections that extend beyond the three-day event.
