Security guard killed in collision with SUV near Batu Pahat

BATU PAHAT: A security guard died on the spot after his motorcycle collided with a sports utility vehicle (SUV) at KM5, Jalan Bukit Pasir-Tongkang Pechah near here.

Batu Pahat OCPD Asst Comm Shahrulanuar Mushaddat Abdullah Sani said the incident occurred at 6am on Monday (Oct 6).

"The 60-year-old victim was travelling from Tongkang Pechah towards Batu Pahat town before crashing into an SUV while turning right at the junction," he said in a statement.

ACP Shahrulanuar said the SUV, driven by a 20-year-old local man, was travelling from Batu Pahat to Tongkang Pechah.

He said the impact of the collision caused the SUV to veer into the oncoming lane, where it hit an oncoming SUV driven by a 48-year-old Malaysian man.

“The motorcyclist, identified as Lajis Muri from Kampung Parit Amat here, suffered severe injuries and was pronounced dead at the scene by a team from the Batu Pahat Health Clinic," ACP Shahrulanuar added.

He said both SUV drivers sustained minor injuries, and the case is being investigated under Section 41(1) of the Road Transport Act 1987.
