Immigration raids nab 97 overstaying foreigners in Kajang

PETALING JAYA: Nearly a hundred suspected illegal foreign workers have been detained following raids at a night market and bazaar in Kajang.

Immigration Department director-general Datuk Zakaria Shaaban, in a statement on Monday (Oct 6), said that the operation was conducted on Sunday after a week-long surveillance into foreigners who have overstayed.

The raids were also carried out based on information gathered from public complaints.

A total of 884 people were inspected in the operation, leading to the arrest of 97 foreigners, comprising 72 men and 25 women.

"The suspects, aged between 18 and 62 years old, have been brought to the Beranang and KLIA depots for further action,” Zakaria added.
