Man nabbed for reckless driving in Sibu


SIBU: A car driver who drove recklessly and crashed into a motorcycle and several other vehicles on Jalan Oya here on Sunday (Oct 5), who was caught on video on social media, has been arrested by the police.

Sibu OCPD Asst Comm Zulkipli Suhaili said the initial urine test on the male driver in his 20s, was found positive for amphetamines.

"Police have detected a 1-minute 29-second video recording that went viral on social media showing a car hitting a motorcycle, causing the motorcyclist to fall.

"The incident is believed to have occurred on Jalan Oya near Sekolah Menengah Kebangsaan (SMK) St Elizabeth. The driver of the car also hit several other vehicles at the scene," he said in a statement on Sunday.

ACP Zulkipli said following the incident, the police had detained the driver in question to assist in the investigation under Section 42(1) of the Road Transport Act 1987 for reckless and dangerous driving on a public road.

In addition, the police are also conducting an investigation under Section 15(1)(a) of the Dangerous Drugs Act 1952 because the urine test was positive for amphetamines. - Bernama
