KUALA LUMPUR: The number of flood evacuees in Kedah increased on Sunday (Oct 5) morning, while the situation in Perak and Johor remained unchanged, with more than 300 residents still housed at temporary relief centres.
In KEDAH, the number of evacuees taking shelter at the Pokok Sena Multipurpose Hall rose this morning to 100 people from 30 families, up from 86 people (25 families) the night before.
Kedah Civil Defence Force (APM) deputy director Major (PA) Muhammad Suhaimi Mohd Zain said the increase was because of the relocation of evacuees from Mukim Lesong, involving Kampung Permatang Limau, to the centre.
He said that currently, only two rivers were at alert level, namely Sungai Ketil in Kampung Bongor, Baling, and Sungai Bata in Kampung Bata, Kubang Pasu.
In PERAK, the number of evacuees in the Larut, Matang and Selama district remained at 107 people (33 families) at three relief centres in Taiping as of 8am.
The Perak disaster management committee secretariat said 22 residents (eight families) from Taman Mawar, Taman Simpang Makmur, Taman Indah, Taman Kota Jaya and Kampung Jalapang Jaya were seeking shelter at the SK Simpang relief centre.
A total of 38 victims (11 families) from Kampung Matang Jambu and Kampung Telok Kertang are still at SK Matang, while 47 victims (14 families) from Kampung Matang Pasir and Kampung Matang Gelugor are housed at SK Matang Gelugor.
Thunderstorms have been forecast this afternoon in the Larut, Matang and Selama, Kerian, Perak Tengah, Hulu Perak, Kuala Kangsar, Kinta, Kampar and Batang Padang districts.
In JOHOR, the number of flash flood victims relocated to a relief centre in Pontian remained at 159 people (46 families) as of 8am.
Johor disaster management committee chairman Datuk Asman Shah Abd Rahman said the centre at SK Melayu Raya, which opened at 6am yesterday, was housing residents from five villages, namely Kampung Melayu Raya, Kampung Paya Embun, Kampung Pak Kalib, Kampung Seri Menanti and Kampung Maju Jaya.
