IPOH: Barisan Nasional and Pakatan Harapan will cooperate in Perak for the 16th General Election, says Nga Kor Ming.
The Perak DAP chairman said that the state Umno Liaison Committee has unanimously agreed that Barisan will work with Pakatan.
“This was informed to me by Perak Mentri Besar’s adviser Datuk Sham Mat Sahat,” he said in his speech at the Perak DAP 23rd annual convention at a hotel here Sunday (Oct 5).
Sham, who is also Perak Umno’s treasurer, was present at the event.
Nga, who is also the Housing and Local Government Minister, urged Malaysians to ensure that the “green wave” does not spread to Perak and to secure victory for the Unity Government.
“With cooperation between Barisan and Pakatan in Perak, not only can we govern effectively, but we will also win two-thirds majority in the next state assembly.
“I call on the DAP party machinery to work tirelessly to ensure both Pakatan and Barisan candidates win in the state,” he said.
Nga said in less than three years, they (DAP) have learned from their past mistakes.
“This is not the first time that DAP and our partners have formed the government, it is the third time.
“We must take lessons from those past errors,” he said.
Nga said the first time DAP became the government was together with Datuk Seri Mohammad Nizar Jamaluddin, who was with PAS at that time.
“But that government lasted only 11 months, and after waiting 10 years, in 2018, DAP once again became part of the state government in Perak, but that administration also did not last long, at 22 months.
“And now it has been 30 months, and we hope for it to last for the next 50 years,” he added.
He added that for states governed by PAS and Perikatan Nasional, they “play with sentiments” but fail in economic management.
“Look at Kelantan and Terengganu. In Terengganu, they announced bonuses for civil servants but had no funds to pay, and had to seek money from the federal government.
“Never before has a state government announced bonuses for civil servants but then asked the Finance Ministry for the funds. Only PAS has done that,” he said.
He added that after more than three decades under PAS rule, Kelantan continues to face some of the country’s worst social and economic indicators, including the highest unemployment rate, most HIV cases, serious drug abuse problems, and the highest poverty rate.
