MetMalaysia issues thunderstorm warning for multiple states

PETALING JAYA: The Malaysian Meteorological Department (MetMalaysia) issues a thunderstorm warning for several states and territories, in effect until 1am on Saturday (Oct 4).

In a post on social media on Friday (Oct 3), MetMalaysia said thunderstorms, heavy rain and strong winds are expected over the states of Perlis, Kedah, Penang and Perak (Kerian, Larut, Matang and Selama, Hulu Perak, Kuala Kangsar, Manjung, Kinta, Perak Tengah and Kampar).

Also affected are Kelantan, Terengganu (Hulu Terengganu, Marang, Dungun and Kemaman) and Pahang (Cameron Highlands, Lipis and Jerantut) as well as Labuan.

In Sarawak, Sarawak: Kapit (Belaga), Miri and Limbang are on alert for severe weather.

While in Sabah Interior, West Coast (Papar, Putatan, Penampang, Kota Kinabalu and Ranau) and Sandakan (Tongod, Telupid, Beluran and Sandakan) are also expected to experience adverse conditions.

MetMalaysia issues these warnings when thunderstorms with rainfall intensity exceeding 20mm per hour are imminent or expected to last more than an hour.

These are short-term warnings, valid for no more than six hours from issuance.
