Accident claims life of army personnel near Menora Tunnel


IPOH: A Royal Malaysian Army personnel died after the truck he was in crashed and fell into a ravine at KM257 northbound of the North-South Expressway near the Menora Tunnel.

Perak Fire and Rescue Department acting assistant director (operations) Shazlean Mohd Hanafiah said the victim was pronounced dead by medical personnel after being pulled out from the wreckage at about 5.55pm on Wednesday (Oct 1).

"We got the emergency call at about 5.35pm.

"Five individuals were already rescued by the time our team arrived at the location, while two more were found trapped in the vehicle," he said in a statement.

"Of the two who were trapped, the victim was the first to be pulled out, while the other person was rescued at about 6.15pm before being sent to the Taiping Hospital.

"The five who were rescued earlier were sent to the Kuala Kangsar Hospital for treatment," he added.
