Man, 47, killed in motorcycle-lorry collision in Kota Tinggi


KOTA TINGGI: A motorcyclist died after colliding with a lorry while exiting a junction here.

Kota Tinggi OCPD Supt Yusof Othman said members of the public reported the accident, which occurred at KM41.5 of the Johor Baru–Mersing road, at about 11.50am on Tuesday (Sept 30).

“The motorcycle, ridden by a 47-year-old man, was believed to have grazed against the lorry while coming out of the junction.

“The victim, who worked as a workshop employee, died at the scene from severe head injuries, while the 57-year-old lorry driver escaped unhurt,” he said in a statement.

He added that the case is being investigated under Section 41(1) of the Road Transport Act 1987.

Upon conviction, offenders may face imprisonment of not less than five years and up to 10 years, a fine between RM20,000 and RM50,000, as well as disqualification from holding a driving licence for no less than five years.

“I advise the public to remain vigilant and always adhere to the laws and traffic regulations to ensure road safety for all,” he said.
