GEORGE TOWN: Police busted a drug processing syndicate by arresting two men including a chemist and seizing various type of drugs worth RM1.7mil during raids here.
Penang police chief Comm Datuk Azizee Ismail said the suspects, aged 27 and 50, were detained in two separate raids conducted by state Narcotic Criminal Investigation Department (NCID) on Sunday (Sept 28) between 9pm to 8am.on the following day.
"In the first raid police have arrested one man at a parking area at George Town, Penang and inspection on the suspect found five light blue plastic packet containing powder suspected to be methylenedioxymethamphetamine (MDMA) weighing about of 129g," he said in a statement on Monday (Sept 29).
Comm Azizee said following the arrest, police detained another syndicate member who acted as chemist at a premise in Jelutong.
He said during the arrest police confiscated 146 green, white and light blue plastic packets containing powder suspected to be MDMA weighing about 3,787g.
He said police also found four sealed plastic bottle containing powder believed to be MDMA weighing about 6.217kg.
"Police also found 10 aluminium foil sheets, each containing 10 pills, suspected to be Erimin 5 pills with an estimated weight of 26.4g, a transparent plastic packet containing white powder, suspected to be ketamine weighing about 12.83g, three transparent plastic packets containing 75 pills, suspected to be ecstasy with an estimated weight of 41.59g," he said.
He said police also found drug processing equipment to process the MDMA drugs.
He said the syndicate had been operating since September and both suspect were found positive with drugs.
"A check on the two suspects found prior criminal record," he said adding that a car worth about RM82,000 was seized from the suspects.
The two suspect are now remanded for seven days until October 5 to assist with the investigation.
"The case is being investigated under Section 39B of the Dangerous Drugs Act 1952," he added.
