Six injured after 4WD loses control, ploughs into vehicles in Melaka

MELAKA: A four-wheel drive ploughed into several vehicles waiting at a traffic light junction in Cheng here driven by a 29-year-old driver suspected of being intoxicated.

Melaka Tengah OCPD Asst Comm Christopher Patit said the 4WD involved was heading from the city to Cheng when the driver allegedly lost control of his vehicle in the 7.30am accident on Thursday (Sept 25).

He said the 4WD struck the road divider before swerving into the opposite lane and crashing into a pair of luxury vehicles, two hatchbacks, and a sedan.

He said six individuals sustained light injuries in the collision.

"All were rushed to Melaka Hospital and are reported to be in stable condition", he said the same day.

ACP Christopher Patit said full details are still being gathered as the victims have yet to lodge their police reports.

"Based on preliminary information, the vehicle was believed to have gone out of control before ploughing into the opposite lane and colliding with the waiting cars,” he said.

He added that investigations are being carried out under Section 44 of the Road Transport Act 1987 for driving under the influence of drugs or alcohol causing injury or death.
