75 people nabbed for encroaching into restricted area of forest reserve

SERDANG: A joint operation at a forest reserve saw the police detaining 75 people for encroaching into restricted areas.

Serdang OCPD Asst Comm Muhamad Farid Ahmad said that the operation, which was jointly conducted with the Selangor Forestry Department, was conducted at the Ayer Itam forest reserve.

"75 individuals were detained for committing an offense by entering the Permanent Reserved Forest from Bukit Wawasan, Puchong, without the required entry permit under the National Forestry Act 1984," he said in a statement on Sunday (Sept 21).

He added that the raid was conducted inside a prohibited area and that the only area open to the public was the 2.8km trail that starts and ends at the Bukit Wawasan foothill.

"All detainees were released on bail by the Selangor Forestry Department," he said.
