Zara's former friend went on sick leave before school transfer, inquest hears

KOTA KINABALU: A former close friend of the late Zara Qairina Mahathir, who was later said to have links to her death, had gone on a long sick leave before transferring to another school, the Coroner’s Court was told Friday (Sept 19).

This was stated by the school’s head warden Azhari Abd Sagap who continued giving his testimony from Thursday (Sept 18), who said that the said student had applied for a sick leave from July 28 to Aug 4.

He said the student later sent in a fresh medical certificate for the leave from Aug 8 to Aug 18.

It is unclear why the student needed such long sick leaves, he said, adding to an earlier statement that he did not know the reason for her transfer to another school.

The court also heard that Zara’s mother had allegedly sent multiple text messages to this said student, resulting in this student’s mother giving a warning to Zara’s mother to stop traumatising and mentioning her child’s name.
