MBMB Mayor wants flooding issues at Bazar Kraftangan to be solved immediately

MELAKA: The Melaka Historic City Council (MBMB) has called for immediate action to resolve frequent flooding at Bazar Kraftangan, Dataran Pahlawan Megamall Melaka, particularly during the rainy season.

MBMB Mayor Datuk Shadan Othman said the recurring floods disrupt daily operations and affect the livelihoods of handicraft traders and micro-entrepreneurs in the area.

He attributed the issue to faulty drainage system, especially when the main water pump fails to discharge water effectively.

"This recurring problem is alarming and remains unresolved,” he said in a statement posted on MBMB’s official Facebook page on Saturday (Sept 13).

Shadan added that the management and maintenance of the site fall under the Joint Management Body (JMB) of the megamall, to which MBMB regularly pays the required maintenance fees.

"MBMB urges the JMB to replace the faulty water pump immediately and implement other preventive measures without delay,” he said.

He assured that MBMB will continue to monitor the situation and will not tolerate any delays that could harm traders or the reputation of the tourism area. — Bernama
