Body found by riverbank near cemetery in Ipoh

IPOH: Police are investigating the discovery of a body found near a river close to the Orang Asli Cemetery at Kampung Kerawat, along the Simpang Pulai-Cameron Highlands road, earlier on Friday (Sept 12).

Ipoh OCPD Asst Comm Abang Zainal Abidin Abang Ahmad said a 28-year-old local man had lodged a report after villagers informed him of the find.

“Initial checks at the scene, together with the state police forensics unit, confirmed the body wrapped with cloth found stuck to a tree trunk by the riverbank.

“The victim’s identity has yet to be determined,” he said in a statement on Friday.

The case has been classified as a sudden death report pending a post-mortem examination to determine if there were any criminal elements involved.

ACP Abang Zainal also advised the public not to speculate and to give space for investigations to be carried out.

Anyone with information has been urged to contact Simpang Pulai police station chief Insp Tai Zhe Jin at 019-544 8601.
