Media reminded not to reveal names of children in Zara Qairina inquest

KOTA KINABALU: Media personnel were reminded not to reveal any names of children or child witnesses in the ongoing Zara Qairina Mahathir inquest.

Coroner Amir Shah Amir Hassan said the media must bear in mind the requirements of the Child Act and Child Witness Act for the names or particulars of any child witness not to be published in the media.

He said this after the conducting officers raised concern over the names of these children, including names of the accused, which may be named during the inquest.

Counsel Joan Goh also expressed concern about the consequences or ripple effect if names were accidentally mentioned or published in any way to the public.

The inquest is ongoing.
