Zara Qairina inquest: Father had been left in limbo over daughter’s death, says lawyer


KOTA KINABALU: The father of Zara Qairina Mahathir father is seeking more details from the inquest, having been left in limbo since her tragic death on July 17.

Mahathir Mohd Hashim's lawyer Sherzali Asli told reporters that he had been relying on second hand information including from social media to find out what happened to his daughter.

"As her biological father, he has every right to be admitted as an interested party in the inquest to find out the facts," said Sherzali along with lawyers Nurul Rafeeqa Afdul Mutolip and Clarice Vyonne Conrad who are representing the father.

He said that Mahathir, 44, and his wife Noraidah Lamat were separated but not divorced.

Mahathir was not present in court when the application was made and might attend as the inquest progresses.

Zara Qairina was found unconscious at a drain at 4am on July 16 near her school hostel in Papar, Sabah.

She was later pronounced dead at Hospital Queen Elizabeth on July 17.

On Aug 20, five teenagers were charged with bullying Zara Qairina in the Kota Kinabalu Juvenile Court.
