Thank you for the National Day gift: Anwar congratulates Chen-Toh for Malaysia's first mixed doubles world title

PETALING JAYA: Describing their win as a National Day gift to Malaysia, Prime Minister Datuk Seri Anwar congratulates mixed doubles shuttlers Chen Tang Jie and Toh Ee Wei over their win in the finals of the 2025 World Championships in Paris.

Chen and Toh made history when they became the first shuttlers to win the mixed doubles world title for the country.

"Congratulations to the mixed doubles pair Chen Tang Jie and Toh Ee Wei on their proud achievement at the BWF World Championships 2025. Thank you for working hard to bring glory to the country," Anwar posted on X.

The duo toppled world No. 2 China’s Jiang Zhen Bang and Wei Ya Xin in the final game of the championship.

Communications Minister Datuk Fahmi Fadzil also described the victory of the national mixed doubles pair as a meaningful gift in conjunction with the National Day.

According to Bernama Fahmi congratulated and expressed gratitude to the Malaysian heroes for their proud achievement on the world stage on Facebook.

In the final held at the Adidas Arena, the world number four pair defeated second seeds Jiang Zhen Bang-Wei Ya Xin 21-15 in the first set.

In the second set, they continued to suppress the Chinese pair's fightback, sealing a 21-14 victory to deliver Malaysia's first-ever gold in the mixed doubles event after a full 40 minutes of thrilling action.

The success ended nearly two decades of waiting, as Malaysia's previous best achievement in the mixed doubles was reaching the semi-finals through Koo Kien Keat-Wong Pei Tty at the 2006 edition in Madrid, Spain.
