Over RM50mil disbursed on first day of RM100 Sara assistance programme

PETALING JAYA: Over RM50mil was disbursed on the first day of disbursement of the one-off RM100 under the Sumbangan Asas Rahmah (Sara) Appreciation Programme, says the Finance Ministry.

The ministry said that the response from the public was very encouraging, with around 850,000 eligible Malaysians having spent the amount as of 9:30pm on Sunday (Aug 31).

It said that this number was despite processing delays due to a system glitch, which was caused by the extremely high volume of transactions.

"We and the MyKasih Foundation have taken steps to increase our system's capacity to ensure that on Monday (Sept 1) onwards, the public can continue with the transactions without issues," said the ministry in a statement on Sunday.

It said that system maintenance would be carried out later on Sunday night to ensure the system remains stable.

"We would like to apologise for the inconvenience caused and will continue to monitor to ensure the initiative is implemented smoothly," said the ministry.
