JOHOR BARU: Johor registered more than 50% decline in cumulative dengue cases in epidemiological week 34 (Epi Week), this year, compared with the corresponding period in 2024.
State health and environment committee chairman, Ling Tian Soon, stated that there were 4,303 dengue cases in Epi Week 34/2025, compared to 10,286 cases in Epi Week 34/2024.
“It represented 58.2% decline in the cumulative dengue cases from 10,286 cases recorded last year,’’ he said in a statement on Thursday (Aug 28).
Ling said from the 4,304 cases, 1,364 (31.7%) were epidemic locality cases, while 2,940 (68.3%) were non-locality cases.
He added that the Johor Baru district has the highest number of cases, with 51 (69.9%), followed by Batu Pahat (eight, 11%), and Kulai (six, 8.2%).
Ling said Muar registered three cases (4.1%), Kluang and Kota Tinggi each had two cases (2.7%), and Tangkak had one case (1.4%).
“There were no dengue cases reported in Pontian, Segamat and Mersing, for Epi Week 34,’’ said Ling.
He said there were no new death cases for Epi Week 34/2025, the cumulative death cases remain at eight as recorded in Epi Week 33/2025.
Ling said the seven dengue hotspots in Johor Baru were Bandar, Jelutong, Plentong, Pulai, Sungai Tiram, Tebrau and Tanjung Kupang in Gelang Patah.
He said the 14 hotspots in Batu Pahat are Bagan, Chaah Baru, Kampung Bahru, Linau, Lubok, Minyak Beku and Peserai.
Others were Simpang Kanan, Simpang Kiri, Sri Gading, Sri Medan, Sungai Kluang, Sungai Punggor and Tanjung Semberong.
