Woman seriously hurt in Ipoh house fire


IPOH: A woman in her 40s was severely burned in a fire at Taman Perajurit, Ipoh Garden East, involving three single-storey terrace houses on Monday (Aug 25).

Perak Fire and Rescue Department acting assistant operations director Shazlean Mohd Hanafiah said a distress call came in at 10.39am and fire engines from the Tambun, Meru Raya and Ipoh fire stations, along with the Bercham volunteer brigade, were dispatched to the scene.

“The first fire engine arrived at 10.46am.

“The blaze involved three single-storey terrace houses.

“One house was about 80% destroyed, the second about 30% and the third around 10%,” he said in a statement.

He said the woman sustained third-degree burns over most of her body and was rushed to the hospital.

“A total of 15 firefighters were involved in the operation.

“The blaze was brought under control at 11.10am and firefighters are carrying out overhaul operations to ensure there are no embers,” he said.
