KUALA LUMPUR: Malaysians heading to the National Day celebrations in Putrajaya can look forward to smoother journeys, with Prasarana Malaysia Bhd (Prasarana) extending the operation of its rail, bus and Rapid KL On-Demand (ROD) services to 24 hours on Aug 30 and 31.

Prasarana president and group chief executive officer Amir Hamdan said this will include the Sunway BRT service, with all rail and bus lines running non-stop from 6am on Aug 30 until 11.30pm on Aug 31.

A total of 86 bus routes, involving 235 buses, will operate on Aug 30, rising to 100 routes with 308 buses on National Day.

The ROD service will be available at five selected zones from Putrajaya Sentral MRT and one zone in Putrajaya’s central business district, with reservations remaining at RM1.

Go to www.myrapid.com.my or Rapid KL’s social media pages for the full list of 24-hour bus and ROD service routes.

Amir also announced that a free shuttle bus service will run between Putrajaya Sentral MRT station and Dataran Putrajaya from noon on Aug 30 until 2pm on Aug 31.

The shuttle frequency will be every 10 to 15 minutes on Aug 30, increasing to one every five minutes on National Day between 4am and 2pm.

Additional shuttles will operate from the Putrajaya International Convention Centre (PICC) and Taman Botani to Dataran Putrajaya on Aug 31, every 10 minutes from 4am to 2pm.

Amir said more than 5,000 personnel will be deployed to ensure smooth and safe operations.

“This initiative is not just about providing mobility services but also reflects our commitment to strengthen public transportation as a driver of unity and a symbol of national pride.

“We hope Malaysians will take advantage of this service to attend in large numbers and embrace the spirit of independence together in an atmosphere of harmony and goodwill,” he said at Pasar Seni LRT station yesterday.

He added that Prasarana is working with Putrajaya Corporation and the police to ensure smooth operations.

He also advised passengers to ensure their Touch ‘n Go eWallet has sufficient balance for a smoother journey.

Communications Minister Datuk Fahmi Fadzil praised the extended service hours as part of Prasarana’s new Denyut Nadi Merdeka campaign.

“In today’s modern society, access to efficient public transportation is the lifeblood of progress.

“Giving people the ability to travel easily, safely and affordably is part of the meaning of our modern independence,” he said.

Fahmi also highlighted Prasarana’s upcoming Keretapi Sarong 2025 showcase on Sept 13 as part of Malaysia Day celebrations, which will see eight Rapid KL stations host special cultural events.
